Instead we went to the local farmer's market in town. I bought some cantelope - which were apparently pretty famous judging by the reaction we got when bringing them back to the house. It was a pretty neat experience browsing a farmers market where everyone seemed to know each other. Missoula is a pretty large town by Montana standards, but everyone still seems to know everyone else.
We also saw some pretty rad street music at the farmer's market. (sorry about the siren noise)
It looked like they were using some home-made marimbas. The band really drowned out all of the other street musicians - for the most part that was a good thing.
That afternoon we headed out with the other folks in the house for some lunch. They loaned us some sweet road bikes (I got to ride a single speed!) and we rode across town in style. Mark was rocking the rasta beach cruiser with a basket and pinwheel. We were a small bike parade.
We hit up a couple of yard sales, and Joey made a key purchasse for the afternoon's adventure - some $1 Tevas for tubing down the river through town!
We picked up a bunch of inflated tractor trailer innertubes, and joined the rest of Missoula floating down the river. It was hilarious, it seemed like Mark and Noah knew someone in every other bunch of tubes floating down the river - or on the beaches we passed by. You can definitely tell the Montana folks have a raw sense of adventure that is hard to find elsewhere. We saw people jumping and doing flips off of pedestrian bridges off of the river - we saw crazy flotillas of tubes partying down the river - and we saw people cannonballing into rip currents. It was a wild river party the whole way. The weather was perfect, hot sun and cold river water. We even saw a bald and golden eagle to top it all off. Wild times were had by all floating down the river.
